Its not often a strength machine cable will snap or break completely. As long as we are on a scheduled PM plan, we will typically identify a weakening cable and recommend replacement before the cable has a chance to break.
Now in this instance, the cable on this Hoist stack machine broke in less than 3 months of installation of this brand new machine. We noted that the diameter of this cable was thinner than any other machine you’ll find in a gym. We contacted Hoist to let them know they ought to consider replacing these with thicker cable.
Hoist does not offer a parts warranty, so the customer had to choose between paying for a replacement from Hoist, or having us create a custom cable. Our cost was less than the manufacturer and our cable was thicker in diameter to meet the standards of the industry and the demands of users.
The final result was superb. We custom cut the length of the cable to precisely the correct length eliminating unwanted slack or tension. We also used a heat shrink tube to cover any rough edges on the copper crimps. The repair was performed on the same trip as the diagnostic saving our client time and money.
